Overview
The first thing that strikes you when you arrive at Villa Alaro is the idyllic beauty of its setting. The gardens are nothing short of dreamy, with its combination of manicured swathes of lawns, sculpted shrubbery and carefully cultivated collection of scented Mediterranean flora. Adding to the sense of total tranquillity is the sound of water trickling into the villa’s fish pond and chirruping of birds in the forested hillside surroundings.
The villa itself is a real eye-pleaser too, a traditional whitewashed country house with pretty wood-shuttered windows and terracotta tiles. Inside the mood stays largely rustic, but with sunlight-filled spaces and touches of sophistication such as hanging chandeliers and gilt-framed artworks. Add some spectacular panoramic views over the central plains of Mallorca from numerous vantage points, and the result is blissfully restful spot you’ll happily while away your holiday.
The villa is positioned high up on a lush hillside close to the picturesque town of Alaró, nestled in the foothills of the Tramuntana Sierra. It’s a peaceful and laid-back region of the island, mostly made up of farmland and country estates. You’ll find some wonderful walks just outside Alaró, including one up to its famous castle. The location also means easy access to most parts of the island, including the beaches of Alcúdia Bay less than half an hour away. You’re also just 20 minutes from the buzz and bustle of the capital, Palma, and its international airport.
Villa Alaro has four double bedrooms sleeping up to ten guests. Decor is light, elegant and understated, and three of the rooms feature wonderful views out over the Mallorcan countryside. All have their own ensuite bathroom, too, complete with fluffy towels, toiletries and walk-in showers and/or bathtubs.
Reclining on a cushioned sun lounger by the pool, dipping in and out of the water, and breathing in the fragrance of the surrounding gardens – you’ll feel relaxed and rested in no time at all.
Inside, the sitting room has a pair of seriously comfy sofas and opens up to the terrace to create that inside-outside Mediterranean-style living. There’s an office, too, if you must take care of business while you’re away.
A wonderfully bright and modern kitchen comes fully equipped with everything you’ll need for whipping up anything from snacks to multi-course dinners. There’s a top-of-the-range coffee machine, too, and a big fridge freezer with ice machine.
If you fancy eating out, there’s are some excellent restaurants in nearby Alaró. Also a must is Es Verger on the route up to the castle, but it gets busy so book ahead.
