Overview

For many visitors who fall in love with Mallorca, it’s Deia where they feel the first flutter – and it’s easy to see why. And perched on a hillside surrounded by the majestic Tramuntana mountains, Can Deai has a prime position overlooking this enchanting mountain village.

This traditional Mediterranean villa is built in the honey-hued stone of the region, with interiors finished in a stylishly updated take on typical Mallorcan decor. Rustic terracotta tile floors and chunky wooden fixture combine gracefully with swish modern furnishings and 21st-century comforts throughout.

The villa is a perfect starting point for some wonderful hiking trails around some of the island’s most picturesque landscape. And when you return, a dreamy pebble-clad terrace affords views directly out to sea – the perfect spot for an alfresco dinner as the sun dips over the horizon.

The villa is located just on the outskirts of Deia, so it’s an easy stroll into the heart of the village. Head in the other direction, and a pleasant walk downhill is the wonderful cove of Cala Deia – one of the island’s most iconic and a lovely spot for a post-lunch dip. You’re also just a few minutes from La Casa de Robert Graves, the writer’s former home and now museum.

As well as numerous hiking trails in the immediate surrounds, jump in the car and you’re a short drive from Valldemossa, one of Mallorca’s prettiest mountain towns. Just 20 minutes’ away is the sandy beach and picturesque Port de Sóller, too. If you fancy hitting the buzzing island capital, Palma is also just 40 minutes by road.

There are four bedrooms sleeping up to eight guests in total. Located on the ground floor, the master bedroom features a romantic four-poster bed and fireplace, plus double-height French doors that look out over the pool, terrace and mountains. A spacious ensuite bathroom has access from either side of the bed, plus a freestanding stone tub, twin sinks, a walk-in rainfall shower and heated towel rails.

The second is a small double on the lower-ground floor, with double bed and ensuite bathroom with walk-in rainfall shower. Access can be privately via stone steps from the front of the villa.

Also on the lower ground, the other two bedrooms (a double and a twin) offer ensuite bathrooms. French doors also leading out to the sun terrace, swimming pool, and Deia village beyond – a truly wonderful view to wake up to each morning.

Most of your time at this villa will likely be spent gazing over the swoon-worthy surroundings.  The L-shaped infinity pool is a particularly pleasant spot, where you can cool off before flopping on to one of a pair of two circular rattan sun beds. Here, you can also escape the sun under the dappled shade of a olive tree while you enjoy an alfresco lunch accompanied by an abundance of scented flora. On cooler evenings, there’s a snug lounge sitting room with central heating, a sink-into sofa and sea-view picture window.

A well-equipped kitchen provides everything you’ll need if you fancy cooking for yourselves, plus a sunny breakfast room that opens out to a small furnished terrace. But you’re more likely to want to experience some of the wonderful dining option in the surrounding area. Firstly, there’s Michelin-starred cuisine at Es Racó d’es Teix just the other side of the village. The landmark La Residencia hotel has its wonderful El Olivo restaurant a short stroll away. Or for a more rustic experience, a Sa Foradada is quick cab journey with wood-fired paella and sea views.
