The hotel building dates back to the XI Century and the property has been in the same family since the XV Century. As you enter Es Castell you step into a bygone era where the secrets of past generations are worn into the thick stone that makes up its walls.
A dirt road takes you from the sleepy hamlet of Binibona past rolling fields dotted with gnarled olive trees and suddenly you are rewarded with your first glimpse of the old house, where it stands dominating the surrounding countryside. From this elevation the view of the 750 acres that make up the grounds is impressive, encompassing the majestic Tramuntana mountains at the back of the hotel, and the surrounding olive groves at the front, and further still, stretching over the many villages that dot the lower countryside, all the way up to bay of Alcúdia.
Pass through the cobbled patio, past the medieval well in the courtyard and stop to admire the Almanzara or olive press, or take a walk through the gardens up to the pool, with its dazzle of bougainvillea, the al fresco terrace, where you are likeliest to have your meals, or the roof terrace, where you can appreciate the spectacular view with a cold glass of Pere Seda and a plate of pimientos del padron. Or, if you want to just sit or read, find a secluded spot in the lounge behind the formal dining room, where you can totally unwind in front of the fireplace.
Finca Es Castell has 11 double rooms and 1 junior suite are decorated in traditional Mallorcan style. Each reflects the character of this distinctive location and offers all the modern comforts you are likely to require, including air conditioning, heating, and en-suite bathrooms. All rooms offer spectacular views of the finca and beyond.
The pool and grounds offer simply stunning views, and there are hammocks, sun-beds and easy chairs well spaced out around our four public terraces. The peace and quiet, and attentive, unobtrusive service are almost unique. Around the finca we have walks, running tracks, and a tennis court for those who find all this relaxation a bit much
Much of the produce used in the kitchen is from the Finca Es Castell own grounds – lamb, chicken, oranges, lemons, tangerines, figs, almonds, olives, pears, honey – and from the local markets.
Nothing is frozen, and menus change daily according to availability. Fresh fish abounds in Mallorca and if you are a fish-lover, join the hotel for their weekly trips to the S’Olivar fish market in Palma – you are in for a real treat. Although the emphasis is on Mallorcan specialties, the hotels Italian roots ensure that home-made bread and pasta feature daily on the menu.
The hotel can justifiably be proud of the quality of the food, which has been highly recommended in many press articles, and it will be great part of your holiday enjoyment.
