Posted: Thursday, 27th May 2021

If you are going on a holiday to the gorgeous island of Majorca it might be a good idea to know the traditional foods to look out for in the many restaurants and tapas bars.

Here is a short list of the most popular dishes. It is by no means an exhaustive list, simply a few to whet your appetite.

  • Arroz Brut. This literally translates to ‘dirty rice’. It is a paella rice dish that includes chicken or pork and vegetables.
  • Sobrasada. Spicy Majorcan pork sausage, much like a salami.
  • Pa’amb Oli. Bread with oil and tomato.
  • Tumbet. A type of ratatouille with potato, aubergine, peppers, tomatoes and garlic.
  • Sopes Majorquines. A thick soup with brown bread and vegetables.
  • Lechona Asada. Roast suckling pig.
  • Ensaimada. Sweet rolled pastry dusted with icing sugar, often eaten for breakfast.
