Traditional Mallorcan food

If you are going on a holiday to the gorgeous island of Majorca it might be a good idea to know the traditional foods to look out for in the many restaurants and tapas bars.
Here is a short list of the most popular dishes. It is by no means an exhaustive list, simply a few to whet your appetite.
- Arroz Brut. This literally translates to ‘dirty rice’. It is a paella rice dish that includes chicken or pork and vegetables.
- Sobrasada. Spicy Majorcan pork sausage, much like a salami.
- Pa’amb Oli. Bread with oil and tomato.
- Tumbet. A type of ratatouille with potato, aubergine, peppers, tomatoes and garlic.
- Sopes Majorquines. A thick soup with brown bread and vegetables.
- Lechona Asada. Roast suckling pig.
- Ensaimada. Sweet rolled pastry dusted with icing sugar, often eaten for breakfast.
