Mallorca olive harvest 2011

The annual olive harvest has begun on the island of Mallorca and this year’s crop is meant to be fantastic.

Picking began in the town of Caimari which also hosts the Olive Fair each November. The fair actually runs for nine days, but the best time to visit this year is on the 19th and 20th of November. It promises to be a great weekend of tasting and enjoying the islands best produce.

This Summer has had very little rainfall which produces the best fruit for both oil and eating however, means there was a lower quantity than usual.
