Calvari church 365 steps in Pollensa town

Posted: Thursday, 26th July 2018

Pollensa town is a very popular village on the island of Mallorca. Once you visit, it will be easy to see why – the landscape is stunning! The land meets the sea so the view is the best of both worlds, with the town surrounded by mountains and the port (puerto) pollenca right nearby. Both areas are perfect for exploring on foot and there are many rural hotels mallorca located in and nearby the town of pollensa.

The picturesque town is a labyrinth of narrow medieval cobblestoned streets, Baroque churches, Gothic chapels and a beautiful Roman bridge. For an invigorating workout, why not try climbing the 365 steps to reach the famous Calvari Church (El Calvari). When you reach the top you will be richly rewarded with a magnificent view of the northernmost coast of the island. If you are there during the Easter break, you might be lucky enough to witness the haunting re-enactment of Christ’s body being carried down the steps on Good Friday to the sound of pounding drums.

When you make it back down to the town you will most likely be in dire need of a drink and a snack. Choose from the many bars and restaurants hidden in the narrow streets or enjoy some people watching at the epicentre of the town – the cafe-lined plaza – Placa Major. Afterwards you could duck into one of the many small art galleries.
