Mallorcan beaches: Cala Figuera

Want to mix your Mallorcan beach experience with an exciting dose of history? Be sure to circle Cala Figuera on your map. There are actually three Cala Figueras on Mallorca, but this guide is about Cal Figuera in the north of the island in the Pollenca region. Steeped in a sense of untamed wilderness, Cala Figuera lies near an abandoned military zone. Excavated rocks lend a unique dimension to the stunning landscape here. Just be sure to wear a sturdy pair of walking shoes to safely scale the rocky path to the cove.

Steep mountains tower above Cala Figuera on each side of the bay. So cyclists and hikers can often be spotted traversing the striking trails. You may even be of a mind to join them. If a simple taste of pure rugged Mallorcan beach is what you want though, you’re sure to find it at Cala Figuera cove. At times you will stumble across a soft patch of sand. Yet gravel and pebbles dominate the beach line staying true to the rocky surrounds.

Families with young kids in tow would be best to avoid Cala Figuera. Certainly the beach itself offers little by way of entertainment to little ones. But accessing the beach by foot will be almost impossible for small feet. After all, you’ll have to rough it on foot for about 15 to 20 minutes from the car park to the beach.  

Crystal clear waters make for a wonderfully refreshing swim. Or you may like to take a snorkel around the cliffs to spot Mallorca’s vibrant underwater world. 

However you spend your time at Cala Figuera, come fully stocked with food, water and any other conveniences you may like. Cala Figuera’s more remote location means there are scarce amenities to hands. The opposite should be true of course for your choice of accommodation.
